M&M Marketplace’s 5th Annual Fiesta De Tamales was a Roaring Success

November 19th, 2022

Washington County’s largest tamale festival, M&M Marketplace’s Fiesta de Tamales, took place November 19th, just a week before Thanksgiving. Held on the grounds at M&M Marketplace, this year’s fifth annual event saw fun for the entire family, which included tamale tasting contests with local celebrities, tamale-making lessons, live music and performance entertainment, various artisan vendors that reside within M&M, and all around festive fun for all.

This year, M&M Market vendors made and sold 2,400 pre-ordered tamales, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to The Hillsboro Foundation. As for the tamale contest winners, Popuseria Gladys won the banana leaf tamal tasting contest, and Tamal Express took first and second place by storm with their green chile tamales and pork tamales.

El Jarochito took third place with their jalapeño and cheese tamales. The judges had tough decisions to make!

The Hillsboro Schools Foundation, commonly known as HSF, funds projects that provide students that attend Hillsboro public schools with tools to explore, imagine, and express themselves. Since 2000, HSF has invested nearly $5 million in Hillsboro Schools for Innovative Grants, Homework Clubs, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and more.

Fiesta De Tamales benefits the Hillsboro School Foundation while supporting businesses native to Hillsboro and the vendors inside the marketplace. Tamales were available for drive-thru pick-up while festival goers could browse around the marketplace and vibe to the live entertainment or shop at the many vendor setups.

M&M Marketplace would like to extend many thanks to everyone that attended the festival and to the sponsors that helped make this year’s event not only possible but successful. These leading education champions continue to be the behind-the-scenes movers and shakers.

The vendors that set up shop for the festival are notable vendors that sell many products, including auto care, home-ware, clothing, jewelry, toys for the kids, food, and more. With the help of the vendors, M&M can achieve its greater vision of community, culture, and family. Shared food allows for cultural exploration, and tamales brought the entire community together during Fiesta de Tamales.
